At Hopeful Hands Press, we believe coloring can be more than a quiet pastime. It can create space to slow down, encounter history and faith, and spend time with stories that deserve to be remembered.

That idea is at the heart of our newest release, Sisters in Sainthood: A Catholic Coloring Book of Women Saints — a collection celebrating women whose courage, service, sacrifice, leadership, and faith have shaped the Catholic tradition across centuries and cultures.

Women of Faith

The women recognized as saints by the Catholic Church did not live one kind of life.

They were queens and peasants, mothers and religious sisters, scholars and missionaries, martyrs and mystics. Some served the poor and sick. Some founded religious communities, schools, and hospitals. Some challenged powerful rulers. Some crossed continents. Some faced persecution rather than abandon their faith.

We created Sisters in Sainthood because we wanted readers — especially teens and young adults — to encounter that remarkable variety.

Female holiness is sometimes portrayed as quiet or passive. The lives of the saints tell a much larger story. Again and again, we find women whose faith demanded courage, perseverance, intelligence, compassion, and action.

Rather than simply presenting their names, we wanted to give readers a way to spend time with their stories.

What's Inside

Sisters in Sainthood combines detailed coloring pages with short biographies and traditional Catholic iconography.

Inside, readers will find:

  • 24 dynamic scenes inspired by defining moments in the lives of the saints

  • 24 stained-glass-style portraits featuring the symbols and attributes traditionally associated with each woman

  • Short biographies providing historical and spiritual context

  • A timeline placing the saints within the broader sweep of Christian history

  • A color test page for experimenting with pencils, markers, and other coloring media

The collection reaches across centuries and cultures, from familiar figures such as Saint Joan of Arc and Saint Thérèse of Lisieux to women whose stories may be new to many readers.

For each saint, we wanted the artwork to do more than provide something beautiful to color. The scenes, clothing, settings, symbols, and stained-glass imagery were designed to help communicate something about who these women were and why their stories have endured.

More Than Portraits of Saints

One of our goals from the beginning was to avoid creating page after page of women simply standing in prayer.

These saints lived extraordinary lives, and the artwork should reflect that.

Throughout the book, readers encounter women in moments of decision, danger, service, discovery, prayer, leadership, and sacrifice. Their companion stained-glass pages then draw on the visual language of Catholic sacred art, incorporating the traditional symbols that have helped generations recognize and remember them.

Together, the two approaches offer different ways of encountering each saint: first through her story, and then through the iconography associated with her.

A Book for Coloring, Learning, and Reflection

Sisters in Sainthood was designed for teens and adults, with enough detail to provide a satisfying coloring experience without losing the clarity and beauty of the underlying artwork. It can be approached as a creative activity, an introduction to Catholic saints and sacred art, or simply an opportunity for quiet reflection.

Our hope is that readers come away with more than finished coloring pages. We hope they discover women they had never heard of, see familiar saints in a new way, and recognize just how many forms courage and faith can take.
